Set in 1937 amid the rugged beauty of Western Canada, Where the Spirit Lives tells the story of Komi (Michelle St. John), a courageous young Blackfoot girl. Taken from her home on the reserve, she is sent by the government to an English-speaking residential school and renamed Amelia. With the help of Kathleen (Ann-Marie MacDonald), a compassionate schoolteacher, Amelia must find the courage within herself to live in what white society calls civilization, and what to her is a foreign and hostile environment. Shot on location in the scenic Canadian Rockies.
